The American Legion has served our country for more than 100 years and is the nation’s largest wartime Veterans Service Organization. Eligibility to join The American Legion is from 7 December 1941 to present day and you have served one day on active duty and honorably discharged. The American Legion is a nonpartisan, not-for-profit organization with great political influence perpetuated by its grass-roots involvement, from the legislative process in Minnesota to Capitol Hill. Legionnaires’ sense of obligation to community, state and nation drives an honest advocacy for veterans at the state level and in Washington. The American Legion Department of Minnesota stands behind the issues most important to the nation’s veterans community, backed by resolutions passed by volunteer leadership.
We are committed to mentoring youth and sponsoring wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow servicemembers and veterans. Our mission is to serve members by building relationships to promote The American Legion’s programs, patriotism, and honor to make our communities better and stronger. In the state of Minnesota, there are 10 districts and 549 posts. The American Legion Department of Minnesota is also proud of our legacy of publishing the Legionnaire, the state’s largest monthly newspaper for the last century. The Legionnaire Newspaper reaches more than 76,000 subscribers monthly.
The American Legion is built on four pillars:
Hundreds of local American Legion programs and activities strengthen the nation one community at a time.
